Real Life Changing Transformations

I first met Sean when he became head coach of the rugby club which I play for (Poole RFC). At this time I weighed around 158 KG (25 Stones) and was severely unfit. In a very short time and only training with him once a week on the pitch, he showed me the drastic changes I could make to my life if I was willing to work hard.
With this in mind I enquired about personal training with him. For my first PT session in October 2011 Sean asked me what I wanted to achieve and my goal was simple…to lose weight. I was having sessions once a week, but it wasn’t just the great pt which was helping me. I received advice on my diet, and was required to keep a food diary which was extremely helpful in keeping me disciplined and informed. I also had an exercise programme to follow so I could do additional training throughout the week.
I started to lose weight straight away and from my regular weigh-ins the results were showing. Not only on the scales but in my fitness levels too. Sean is always available for advice when I need it. I have also found that attending his Boxing circuits class and Bootcamp sessions have helped me break the monotony of going to the gym. Every session is different and challenging whether it is an hour of personal training or an exercise class.
I am on my way to achieving my goal but I can already say my life has completely changed for the better. To illustrate this I currently weigh 100 KG and, have lost nearly 18 KG, 13 and 10 inches on my waist, hips, and chest. I am the fittest I have ever been, enjoy playing rugby more than ever and I have a genuine love for healthy living.

As someone the wrong side of 45 and the wrong side of 12st I took pride in myself on the fact that I regularly went to the gym every morning and did my own routine. However despite going to the gym my weight was beginning to pile on and I knew it was time for drastic action.
Just before Christmas a card came through the door advertising an ‘Invincible Boot Camp’ run by Sean at Broadstone gym. I kept the card for a few days whilst deciding to sign up or maybe join Weight Watchers. In the end I called Sean hoping like mad that he would say there were no more spaces or tell me you needed to be super fit to attend his Boot Camp. Unfortunately ( I thought at the time) he said there were spaces and anyone can join no matter what their weight, age or fitness level and even more annoying- he sounded like a nice chap.
So I found myself driving to Broadstone at 6am one dark January morning in trepidation wondering if I was doing the right thing. I soon realized – during the warm up- that despite going to the gym just how unfit I was.
I can’t sing the praises of Sean or his team, Jamie etc enough. They put so much time and effort into each session- even going in the night before to set up. Every morning the room had a different set up- we never knew what we would be doing each morning, which keeps it interesting.
With the encouragement from Sean and his team each session was fun and you can’t help having a go at everything and giving it your best effort. All my fellow ‘Boot Campers’ were friendly and there was good banter amongst everyone. I never felt ill at ease because of my weight or fitness level.
As a result of the course I lost 12 inches all over and feel much better and healthier. I have already signed up to do the next Camp and can’t wait for it to start. It might seem like hard work getting up so early but I always felt more awake on the Boot Camp days than I did the rest of the week.
I would recommend Sean’s Boot Camp to anyone- and frequently do. What have you got to lose- apart from weight and inches.
Sue King

September 2012 I set myself the challenge of becoming a Royal Marine Commando arguably one of the toughest job going and home to a lot of fitness fanatics! I joined the gym for the first time and didn’t really have any structure or organization to my exercise routine. Sean came and introduced himself one day and gave me a couple of pointers, as I was flailing about on one of the machines and generally almost doing more harm than good! So I booked an appointment for the following week.
Sean really opened up my eyes and focused on what I could already achieve rather than the massive transformation and effort that was inevitably in front me. He is professional in a friendly, personal way, as well as being regarded an expert in understanding fitness and the human body but has a great attitude and even greater personality, who will always help you to strive to achieve your goals and teach you that with a bit of effort, commitment and brains anything you want is within your reach. It certainly would have been a much harder and longer road for me without Sean’ constant help and applied pressure when needed! He was never afraid to go that extra mile for me! Here are just some of my stats to prove this:
Started:
1.5 mile run: 9:40
Press ups: 36
Plank: 65 seconds
Pull ups: 2/3
3 min row: 869m
7 months later and accepted into the Royal Marines:
1.5 mile run: under 8:30
Press ups: 65+
Plank: 4 mins+
Pull ups: 8+
3 min row: 914m+
Given that my fitness when joining was that of the average beer drinking, burger-loving young man that could be outrun by his 56yr old boss! Sean must have performed a miracle! Not only can you see the difference in the stats but also visually as well, replacing fat with extra muscle and much leaner. This is only because Sean made me realise how important diet, lifestyle is as much as doing the exercise and hard work!
Whatever you want in life Sean can help you realise and achieve any goal!
Toby

I’d been going to the gym and using just treadmill and cross trainer but I didn’t feel that my fitness was progressing. I started training with Sean in late 2011 and I’ve never looked back! I now train with Sean for an hour of personal training every week, and an hour of boxing circuits – and these are the backbone of my training routine. Each session is different so I never find that I am losing interest or getting bored; definitely keeps your interest and focus. Sean also makes sure that we are focussing on different muscles or exercises each week, so that over the course of several weeks each area of your body is trained and the benefit is all over.
Since I started training with Sean I have lost over a stone and 2 dress sizes, and my whole body shape and tone have changed. I love the fact that I can now get involved in any activity I want without worrying that my strength or fitness will let me down, I have also taken up running and rowing on a weekly basis. This year I will be running the 10k Race for Life for the first time; there is no way at all that I could have attempted this before I started training with Sean!
I see so many benefits in my day-to-day life as a result of my training with Sean; I have more energy than I ever had before starting a training programme – and get real satisfaction from being able to get stuck in and challenge myself. We measure fitness and stats regularly so that I can see the improvement and changes, and this gives me a real boost to keep going and beat my personal bests!
If you want to get results and enjoy doing it then I would definitely recommend training with Sean!
Sue

Prior to boot camp I had been going to the gym 3-4 times a week between shift-work and University. I wasn’t noticing much change and was finding it difficult to fit going to the gym in as often as I’d have liked. I signed up for the 10 week boot camp in January purely to improve my fitness and looking for something a bit different to motivate me. Initially I was apprehensive as to doing something so different, especially when it involved getting up in the cold and dark. Most people think you’re a bit bonkers waking up first thing for “punishment” out of choice, but it really is pretty easy after the first one and fun too. I always felt refreshed after and it’s great to have worked out knowing you have the rest of the day ahead.
Boot camp was perfect for me as every session chops and changes. You don’t have the dread of knowing what’s coming next like you do in some fitness classes, but you still get an all over workout. The sessions were tough; you’re able to go at your own pace (within reason), but still encouraged to push yourself. My strength and fitness levels have increased quicker in the past couple of months than with any other training I was doing before. If anything I have more energy, despite being up so early.
My aim was never about losing weight or inches and I didn’t really expect to however I ended up losing over 6 pounds, 13 inches and 7% body fat! I’m now down to 18% body fat which is amazing! You get nutrition and exercises info too, making it well worth the money of signing up. I’ve even been going to 6am beach circuits to fill the gap before the next one. I would definitely recommend SBPT Boot camp and have even managed to get a friend to sign up for the next one too.
Target: maintain my achievements and continue improving my strength for a summer full of charity challenges!
Helen

At 55 years old I have been attending Sean’s boot camp and seeing him for one to one sessions for a few months now and, in such a short space of time my fitness levels are better now than they have ever been. I have more energy and stamina and, have actually started running again for the first time in years!
As predicted with converting body fat to muscle my weight has gone down slowly on the scales but my body shape has changed completely. I now have a waist again and, have dropped sizes in both my dresses and jeans. Sean is very encouraging and, you can never get bored exercising with him as he is always varying the routine.
If you want to get fit and lose weight I would recommend Sean Burgess to anyone.
Mary

After a couple of years of trying to kid myself breathing in more and more when I looked at myself in the mirror, I joined the gym to try and lose weight and increase my stamina. I was also getting married in 6 months and did not want to look like a big white snowball waddeling down the aisle! However, being someone who has struggled to lose weight in the past and not particularly enjoyed going to the gym, got bored very quickly.
I arranged to have a trial session with Sean after my Husband-to-be had a couple of sessions with him and raved about how good he was. I was nervous as had never been to a Personal Trainer before, but Sean made me feel instantly at ease. After enjoying the trial session, I booked more sessions with Sean.
Each session was never the same and there was a good mix of cardio and mats work/weights. We also ventured outside the gym on a couple of occasions making a nice change. Sean is always very encouraging throughout the sessions and tells you how well you are getting on. The nutritional advice was very good as well. Within about 2 weeks I could see I difference in the mirror and my fitness at netball, and after 4 months of seeing Sean, I had reached my target weight loss of just over 9lbs and a dress size. However, it was not just the weight loss I was impressed with, but how much more toned I was looking. On my wedding day, I had a lot of compliments about how much weight I had lost.
Sean has been excellent and I would recommend him to anyone. He is not only a brilliant Personal Trainer but a genuinely nice person.
Laura

Sean approached me just over 5 months ago in March 2012, when I obviously didn’t have a clue what I was doing in the gym!! He straight away put me to the test to see what I was capable of (which originally was not a lot) and efficiently came up with a personal plan to meet achievable targets. I signed up at the gym initially for weight loss, to build my self-confidence and self-esteem as I felt massively over weight. Sean listened and took into account the fact I was an amateur to exercise and had huge amount of patience…and still has.
Every personal session is always different from the last, motivating, educational, and generally fun. It is very surprising how much you can learn about yourself as well as avoiding the ‘bad habits’ to exercise. The amount of information available from Sean is unbelievable and he definitely knows his stuff! With all the aspects I have been taught, I’ve managed to achieve each of my set targets. To date I have lost 42 pounds over 3 stone and seen my waist reduce by 7 and a half inches!. With this in mind new targets are set continuingly to keep me interested and motivated.
Sean is definitely approachable, knowledgeable and inspirational. Although it has been such a short time I am even shocked how far I have come, mentally and physically and I will continue to see him weekly to see what possibilities lie ahead! I would recommend his sessions 10 times over to anyone who generally has no idea where to start with body training, nutrition and even self belief.
‘Thank you’ doesn’t quite cover it Sean, you have been amazing!!
Eddie Rimmer-Stokes

I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed boot camp over the last 10 weeks and how lost I am now its finished!
I lost a stone before I started so I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t lose much more weight but I really did just want to shape my body, well after seeing the before and after pics I just can’t believe the difference. When people keep saying I look amazing I just haven’t seen myself the way they have until now. I thought Boot Camp would be hard and boring but I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it and it’s made me feel like a different person completely. I wish we didn’t have to stop at all but I will most certainly be coming again in September and hope to beat 3rd place this time.
Bring it on!!!!
Thanks Sean and team!
EMMA PERKS

I was sceptical to start with, thinking just another PT just a corporate robot. But I couldn’t be more wrong!. Sean is amazing and I’d definitely recommend him to anyone and everyone. I had the dreaded ‘mummy tummy’ and extra weight after having my son 2 years ago and hated everything about it.
But with Sean’s help I’ve dropped nearly a stone (12 pounds) this year, 8% in body fat, lost inches and massively toned my horrible areas, as well as hugely increasing my fitness! I genuinely feel great and have actually learnt what I should be doing and why when I’m working out.
Sean pushed me more then I would myself and seemed to know my limits better then I did and I’m so glad he did! Without his help I’d still be unfit, unhealthy and unhappy!.
I really can’t thank him enough!
If you haven’t already booked as many sessions as you possibly can I suggest u do!
I’m one very happy, lighter and fitter. Customer!

I met Sean 2 years ago when he purchased a car from my car lot. While doing the deal I remarked on the size of his arms and we got talking about the gym and how I had always wanted to go but never pushed myself enough, not to mention the fact I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing.
Sean came across as very knowledgable and informative, he was passionate about what he did and I thought if he looks that good he obviously practiced what he preached! A couple of weeks later I joined the gym and organised some sessions with sean . Two years later and the sessions with him have totally changed my way of thinking, not only when it comes to exercise but motivating myself and eating a healthier balanced diet.
The sessions with Sean are never the same and always different in terms of exercise making it easy to stay motivated. He is very professional and his knowledge of human anatomy give the theory behind which muscles i am exercising and why. I am chuffed with the results in terms of my health, fitness levels and new physique. I can do chin ups and am capable of running 10k, I never realised good exercise can give you so much energy and drive in life. I’m pleased I sold Sean the car that day as it’s changed my life in some ways.
Sean’s a great personal trainer with a good sense of humour and really does know what he’s talking about. I would certainly recommend Sean to anyone. Whether you are a beginner or been training for years and need some pointers give Sean a call.

Every so often in one’s life we come across people who inspire, motivate and take us places where we would not dream of getting to on one’s own.Three years ago, Sean came into my life as a personal trainer. I had trained for some years and genuinely believed ‘I knew it all’. His promise to me was that he would get me fit and also feel good about myself.
I was in the full throes of menopause and was struggling accepting the changes my body was going through. My shape was changing and so was my ability to keep motivated, Sean was relentless in his abundance of dedication, professionalism, care all wrapped up under an undeniable high level of expertise.
Three years on, I am told that my heart is fitter than it has ever been, my body shape is once again on the par of my younger years and my confidence has been restored. I finally exercise properly and genuinely feel fit.
When Sean first came into my life, I just saw another personal trainer.
Sean saw in me someone he could make a difference for and that is what makes him so special and unique.
We all need in our lives people who wish to give us their best because they truly care for us as individual human beings. Sean is one of those very unique people and his greatest strength and gift are that he is capable of making each and every one of us feel very special and valued.
His commitment is unconditional and the results undeniable. Sean is currently working with my 16 year old son whose back posture is so poor that unless it gets sorted out now it will only get worse as years go by. Already we are seeing very positive results.
Reality speaks for itself. Sean is simply an ambassador of it and a true reflection of the good of what can be achieved out there with the right guidance. Thank you Sean for believing in all of us and making us reach our true potentials.
Patricia Brayere

Over my 53 years I have always tried to stay in some kind of reasonable shape by getting involved with a number of activities to keep me interested in exercise and diet. In particular for the past 14 years I have been actively playing with a veteran’s football team, which I plan to carry on playing in for a long time to come.
During 2010 I suffered a knee injury that looked like I wouldn’t be able to play again; after a lot of physio, rest, an operation in 2011 and more rest I did get back to playing eventually. The injury made me realise that I needed to learn more about so training I read a lot about exercise, diet and, resistance training for specific parts of the body. Following this I invested in my own Gym equipment at the beginning of 2012 and set myself some quite a comprehensive routines 3 times a week. Despite keeping the regular training going by the end of 2012 I was getting a little disillusioned with it all, the gains in fitness, strength and appearance was minimal at best.
To help combat this at the beginning of 2013 I was given a gift from my wife for a couple of sessions with a personal trainer, that’s when I first meet Sean Burgess. From those first two sessions I knew that this was the way forward for my training and booked another 10 hours straight away. Sean’s knowledge on strength and conditioning and nutrition coupled with his ability to design a dedicated programme for me to follow whist training on my own has led to some great successes. The compiled programs together with our regular weekly session has increased my body condition (fitness) both physically and aesthetically as i put on nearly 15 pounds in lean muscle across 2013. In addition my physical strength has increased on my 3 main powerlifts by at least 50% on each. I even held a plank for 1 minute recently with 70kg on my back; when I started I could do only my body weight for a few minutes.
At the time of writing I’m back playing football twice a week on astro and the occasional (every 3/4 week) 11 aside game on grass. For 2014 my new interest in weight lifting sees me in the gym 3 times a week as I continue to work towards achieving my set goals (excuse the pun). I still train with Sean regularly and without any doubt I would definitely recommend this very friendly, approachable and driven guy to anyone is already training but not getting the results they want. If you are thinking of dieting, getting fitter, lifting weights or any thing else to do with fitness booking a couple of sessions with Sean will no doubt get you on the right track.

Sean is a trainer who genuinely and passionately cares about his clients and the fitness industry; dedicated, motivated and knowledgeable! Over the course of my three years he has transformed me from a shy, skinny teenager into someone who permanently feels healthy, energetic and excited about life. No two of Sean’s sessions have ever been the same, which definitely keeps me interested and keeps the body guessing!
The benefits of having a personal trainer are endless, workouts have been written to my specific goals and needless to say they are far from anything found in conventional fitness magazines. I highly recommend Sean for anyone who is serious about their health or just wants to learn something about themselves; ten out of ten!
……………………………………………………………………………………………………….
I’m now in my 7th year of training with Sean and in this time he transformed me from a shy, skinny teenager into someone who permanently feels healthy, energetic and excited about life. Over the time we have spent training together he has ran me through various fitness training programs including many for strength and conditioning which has included lots of Olympic lifting, specifically cleans and snatches which I can now perform to a high level. So much so that my training ultimately culminated in a personal best of 90kg for 3 reps on a full clean!
We’re currently working on gaining strength with the intention of competing in my first powerlifting competition towards the end of the year; specifically bench press, squats and deadlifts. Sean’s not only trained me to remain functional, but has taken my bodyweight from 54kg to 74kg & helped me achieve a 117.5kg bench press, 137.5kg back squat and 157.5kg deadlift in a short period of time all for 3 reps.
As well as this I’m extremely happy with achieving a 67.5kg military shoulder press & 60kg weighted tricep dips courtesy of Sean’s ever challenging programs!.
As a keen fitness enthusiast I have also taken on various challenges including cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats (1066 miles in 16 days), running the London Marathon in 2010 & competing in last year’s Tough Mudder obstacle race, none of which I could have done without Sean’s knowledgeable, professional and constant inspiration!. . I highly recommend Sean for anyone who is serious about their health, fitness training or sport, ten out of ten.
Adam Dunn

I have trained with Sean for several years now, firstly for PT sessions, group training activities and more recently for strength training programmes having developed a more serious interest in running.
Having run three marathons, Sean has written detailed strength programmes to complement my running training. Not only have these targeted specific areas needed to run a marathon successfully, they have also focused on areas of weakness to prevent injury. This has been imperative in the success of my marathon training cycles. Sean has outstanding knowledge in the fields of injury prevention and biomechanics which would benefit any client looking to improve their overall health fitness.
In addition, Sean has an excellent understanding of nutrition to supplement any training programme at any level. His holistic approach ensues that all trainees get the maximum benefit from his expertise which he always keeps up-to-date with the latest training and developmental research.
Sean’s training sessions are always varied, fun and challenging at the right level. With his background in academic teaching, Sean is a great communicator who puts his clients at ease and makes everything accessible. He also offers complimentary services in physio and sports massage to support any fitness programme.
I have always found Sean to be an ultimately professional and personable trainer. I would highly recommend Sean for any fitness endeavour and I wouldn’t have achieved several of my fitness goals without his support. The testimonies of his clients speaks volumes of the regard in which he is held; I wouldn’t hesitate to get in touch if there a fitness goal you need help with. You’d be hard pushed to find a better trainer.

As a full-time working mother of four, bootcamp fits in with my lifestyle and I feel smug knowing that I’ve lost 16 inches with the summer looming and done a workout before most people get up!

Megan
Thanks to bootcamp I have managed to push on from a big plateau and have now lost 14.8 inches and dropped 14.7% body fat- something I’ve been trying to do on my own and getting nowhere.
