About Sean Burgess

How SB Fitness started

Hi, my name is Sean Burgess. I am a strength and conditioning coach / personal trainer who also regularly doubles up as an academic lecturer, injury therapist and sports coach. To give you some background about my career journey, I first qualified and started working in the fitness industry back in 2006. However, in regard to becoming a full-time professional and building my own enterprise everything really began in 2010 a couple years into my studies at Bournemouth University, where I attended after relocating to the South-West from Hertfordshire.

Heading into the third year work placement of my undergraduate degree I made the decision to start my own self-employed personal training business instead of seeking a contracted position within a related organisation. Pleasingly the decision proved to be justified, as I was able to quickly establish myself within the gym where I was based with the help of many loyal clients.

In the time that has followed since I have focused my energy outside of delivering sessions on both growing the fitness company which you can see before you today and, helping every affiliated trainer develop their own successful career. Separate to the many different demographics of the general public, I continue to work closely with a large number of people who are solely focused on improving their sporting performance. In the past this has ranged across elite international athletes in athletics, football, fencing, sailing, rowing and rugby union to national and regional champions in kickboxing, swimming, golf and gymnastics.

As you might expect there has been many life changing transformations amongst all of these committed populations, varying from some losing between 5 and 10 stone in weight, to others gaining 20 or more kilograms in muscle. These achievements are of course in addition to the many which have gone on to complete specific fitness events and effective rehabilitation periods.

To qualify as an exercise specialist, I have completed both a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Management and a MSc in Sports Science Strength and Conditioning outside of the professional qualifications listed at the bottom of this page.

Previous to my current role and the many years working in amateur sport, I also spent some considerable time acquiring coaching experience at an elite level with Enfield Haringey Athletics club and Rugby Union clubs including London Wasps, London Welsh, Saracens and Bournemouth RFC.
